Tiers

Community Tiers

Community tiers are intended for personal use by individuals and collectives.

Funds will be used to pay hosting companies, payment providers, and taxes. They contribute nothing towards volunteer time spent maintaining the service. Please consider making additional monetary contributions on our Open Collective page.

Prices include VAT / sales tax.

To keep hosting costs low, VMs in this tier may run on machines using desktop-class CPUs and RAM without ECC. Between 30 to 50 gothub.org subdomains may share one physical server.

At present, we are renting root servers hosted by BSWS in Germany for these tiers.

Professional Tiers

Professional tiers are intended for, but not restricted to, use by companies and organizations.

These tiers cover hosting costs and contribute towards the time volunteers spend maintaining the service. Additional commercial support for these tiers is available from Chirpy Software.

VAT / sales tax will be added to prices and you can provide your tax ID for invoices.

VMs in this tier run on machines with server-class CPUs and ECC RAM. Between 12 to 40 gothub.org subdomains may share one physical server.

At present, we are renting root servers hosted by BSWS in Germany for these tiers.

Maximum repository sizes are not hard limits. They reflect our recommendations based on estimates. The main limiting factor on repository size will be the amount of RAM available to a VM. If operations start failing with out of memory errors we might be able to fix this by assigning more RAM to the VM. If you are unsure about your RAM requirements, run git gc or gotadmin cleanup on your largest repository and monitor memory usage of these commands. Our servers regularly run gotadmin cleanup.

All tiers include off-site repository backup by default. If you do not want us to handle backups for you then the available repository disk space can be doubled.

Changing tiers is possible by letting a subscription run out and booking a new one. Repositories on the previous VM will become read-only for 4 weeks, allowing you to migrate them. Contact admins@ ahead of time if you would like us to migrate repositories for you.

We will revise tiers over time, at least once per year, based on user feedback and our current financial situation and workload. We will offer revised tiers at lower prices if possible. Our goal is to achieve fair pricing while remaining sustainable.

If there are providers in other locations you would be interested in, we would like to learn about them. We will not consider hosting servers at large companies. We prefer small- or medium-sized companies and non-profits.
